Foiled Again

I was so not expecting another ADC/Marksman right after having one released last time. I was wrong, but damn this one looks more intriguing than the last. Lucian is basically another Vayne with a different ult. I realize that’s dumbing things down quite a bit, but in all reality their kits are very similar. This time around we’re treated to a champion that sounds much like Jayce, although in a full on carry package rather than a bruiser one. The bit that confuses me is whether or not she has multiple abilities on each button… the way the skills read, she can swap weapons with Q, but then each of her other abilities are unaffected by which weapon she is using? I guess we should take this at face value and assume that’s the way it is, although I would think that each would carry separate abilities, like Jayce’s hammer and cannon. Perhaps there will be changes to this, perhaps not. Anyway, here are the abilities that were officially announced:

Passive: Get Excited!

Jinx gains a massive movement speed boost whenever a champion or tower that she’s recently attacked is killed or destroyed. This boost decays over time.

Q: Switcheroo!

Jinx swaps weapons:

  • Fishbones, the rocket launcher: Jinx’s basic attacks consume mana but gain increased range and deal increased damage to her target and nearby enemies.
  • Pow-Pow, the minigun: Jinx’s basic attacks grant attack speed for a short duration, stacking up to three times. Stacks fall off one at a time once Jinx stops attacking.

W: Zap!

Jinx snaps off an electrical blast that deals damage to and slows the first enemy hit.

E: Flame Chompers!

Jinx throws out a line of snare grenades that detonate after a few seconds, lighting nearby enemies on fire. Enemy champions who walk over a grenade will cause it to detonate early, rooting them briefly.

R: Super Mega Death Rocket!

Jinx fires a global rocket that gains damage as it travels. The rocket explodes on the first enemy champion hit, dealing damage to the target and all nearby enemies based on a percentage of their missing health.

Sounds like a pretty decent kit, and the ultimate is much like Ezreal’s being global. I love global ults, recently having played some games with success as a solo top Shen. I look forward to trying this champ as I am most proficient with ADCs, and she sounds like a blast to play. I don’t really have anymore commentary until more information is present or I get to try her out. But here’s some in-game art to check out while we wait for that:

Sorry for the lack of posts this month, I had been doing pretty good with a couple of posts a week, but I have just been busy I guess. Between work and school, the last episodes of Breaking Bad, the new episodes of Sons of Anarchy, and clearing out my backlog of PS3 games, I just haven’t had as much time. I do still have a post in the works regarding those backlogged games, but that won’t be going up today.

This post is mainly about the new champion teaser for LoL, but first, I have some more screenshots of recent games I’ve played that I’d like to show off. Remember a few posts back when I had the Nami game where I had 56 assists? Well I almost matched it here:

56 is still the record, however I managed 55 in this game, along with quite a few more kills, and only a couple more deaths. Lux is a little more geared to damage dealing than Nami, so these totals are more in line with her kit. This game was solo queue, lasted nearly 30 minutes, and as you can see, I was the only one on my team that wasn’t feeding. Still, it was good fun and I loved hearing “wait for lux” the few times that I did die. It’s great to know you’re carrying your team.  Speaking of carrying:

This game happened last night. I was in a full group, one of which is my brother-in-law (fiddlesticks). The difference not having random players in your group is huge. This is officially the quickest ARAM I’ve participated in, clocking just over 12 minutes. They usually don’t go this fast, 20+ minutes is more of an average. Despite the quick game, I still managed the most gold, creep score, kills, and I wasn’t too far behind on assists either, and tied for least amount of deaths. I have always played a mean ADC, but this was just ridiculous. And fun 😛

Finally, on to the champion teaser:

The name’s Vi. I’m an enforcer. And this is my town – Piltover. They call this place the City of Progress – or they did until she showed up.

Her name is Jinx. That’s what they call her, anyway. No one knows who she is, or where she came from. This scrawny pain in the neck shows up one day, firing heavy guns in the air. And laughing – always with the laugh. I can’t stand her.

Everything changed the day she arrived in town. They might as well call it the City of Crime. Panic among the people. Chaos in the streets. Mayhem everywhere you look.

The worst part is: none of it makes any sense. Ask her why she’s doing it, and she’ll give you a million different reasons. But the only one that matters is:

She’s having fun.

Piltover is just a plaything to her. She’s enjoying the time of her life, and she doesn’t care who gets hurt.

Well, I’m here to shut down the party.

It doesn’t matter what she wants. I don’t care what her sob story is. I’m gonna put her away for a long, long time. And right before I do, I promise you: I’m gonna wipe that stupid grin off her face.

Ok, so is it just me, or does this character sound a whole lot like Harley Quinn from the Batman franchise? Maybe you won’t get that impression from only the text, so here is the picture that also lends to the idea that this champion is “inspired” by Batman:

The hair, the makeup, the cooky weapon designs. Yeah. It’s all screaming Batman, to me. I can’t imagine another ADC coming in right after Lucian, and as the lore is related to Vi, I’m guessing we’re looking at a bruiser type, though guns are ranged, so perhaps another Urgot? I would love another ranged bruiser, as Urgot is the only one that exists today. More on this as the story develops.

Finally, I have been watching Worlds. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, educate yourself. I didn’t catch all the action of the group stage, but I did manage to catch some of it (I believe it was two out of the six days). It was unfortunate to see two of the American teams eliminated at that point, and in the quarterfinals over the last two days, the final NA team was also eliminated. Last night, a Korean (SKT) and a Chinese (RYL) team advanced, both of which won two in a row to eliminated the other teams in best 2 out of 3s. The Semi-finals are coming, and we’re down to four teams. As much as I wanted to root for an NA team, I guess the next best thing is to root for Fnatic. It’s exciting to watch no matter what, and much can be learned from watching the streams. If you want to improve your game, I’d recommend watching the best players in the world while they’re still competing.

Week 3 Preview

I have yet to comment on football this season, but I am feeling good about Green Bay this year. For starters, our running game has improved, and that comes along with an offensive line that has been shaky, and had a lot of transitions, but is starting to look solid. Secondly, our defense has improved vastly since last year, Our loss to the 49ers was tough, but we only lost by 6 and that is an improvement over last January’s loss. I think if we were to play them again we might finally have their number. This week we’re going to face the Bengals, and though they are better than in recent years, I believe we have the team to beat them. And, because I mentioned I love infographics, here’s one for the game to come:

League Updates

There’s been a bunch of cool stuff coming down the pipeline in League. Much of this is old news if you regularly visit the official website, but I’ve had a busy week and hadn’t gotten around to commenting on any of this until now. I have actually been delving more deeply into games in my PS3 backlog, though more additions via the IGC and sales are keeping that an arduous task. I have another post in the works regarding that gaming, look for that soon.

Riot has been trending towards infographics, and though I can’t explain why exactly, I have always enjoyed these. The first is a rather large one, highlighting various facts about the League of Legends community. Here’s a snippet:

These are features that we all take for granted (well, maybe not so much the colorblind mode, I don’t personally know anyone with that problem) and use all of the time. I particularly enjoy smart ping, and have used it in every single game since it’s inclusion. Check out the full infographic here.

That post popped up about a week ago. Today another infographic of sorts was posted, this time highlighting the benefits of being a team player. Instead of a static image, this one was made into a video, and is definitely worth keeping in mind. People that are toxic ruin games for everyone, not just themselves. Check out the video:

Next up, there’s some champion re-works in progress. These aren’t mechanics re-works, rather they are visual upgrades. These kinds of updates have been going on for some time, and have already happened for Annie, Ashe, Master Yi, and others. The oldest champions sometimes become dated looking upon newer champion releases, so in an effort to make everything look on par, Riot has done a good job of updating the look and feel of some of the classic champs. Garen has been officially announced recently, and I think that he looks a lot more imposing than he once did, though he’s not on my list of played champions, unless I get him in an ARAM. Check it out:

On a more unofficial note, Sivir is also rumored to be getting a visual upgrade, but nothing has been announced by Riot just yet. I found this concept art via LeagueCraft:

She definitely looks better than she used to, but I’m interested in seeing how it affects her skins and her combat animations/effects. Since her mechanic re-work a while back she seems plenty viable, so the visual update at least will make her feel like a new champion again.

Lastly, there are some new skins and some sales that are worth checking out. A while back, “Pool Party Ziggs” was released, and apparently got the community clamoring for more summer-esque skins for other champions. I don’t know how they end up picking which champions get this sort of treatment, but it feels like the champions that I love the most don’t get the love that other champions do. Ziggs is a character I love, but I don’t really play any of the other champs that are in the pool party package. I’m not really into these skins at all, though I have seen other thematic skin packages that would have been cool, were there different champions included. Anyway, all my bitching aside, check out the Pool Party skins here.

I had some RP sitting around, so I decided to take advantage of some of the recent sales. The newest champion and skin sale saw me picking up Hecarim for 487 RP. Hecarim is one of the champions that released quite some time ago, but that I never really played. I never even really gave him much thought because I don’t jungle all that often. He only seems fit to be a jungler, so outside of trying him once or twice, he was overlooked. Until I played with my friend who is a Gold tier ranked player. Seeing him play Hecarim made me want to play Hecarim. I need to get some practice, but I’d like to think I could pull of some similar things. There’s also a sale on Boosts (IP & RP), 50% off until the 16th. I still had 300 and some RP left after my first purchase, so I figured why not? I grabbed up a 10 win IP boost and that should get me to where I can purchase another new champion fairly quickly.

I feel better being caught up. Hopefully this doesn’t all reach you as old news.

Epic Nami Game

This made my day:

It’s only an ARAM, and yes, the teams were unfairly balanced (the enemy team on bottom has very little poke and were all melee). We had the nexus towers down and I still hadn’t died, but they did manage to get me twice after that, as they started to get a little more built. I assisted with 56 out of 64 kills. Not bad for a champ that I don’t even own, I’d say. The commentary from my team mate was even more ego boosting 😛

In other news, I finished The Last of Us last night. I also began the factions portion of the game, playing a couple rounds before bed. I must say that the multiplayer, despite being slower paced, is actually better than I expected. It’s something a bit different, but still very similar to uncharted 3’s multiplayer. I have yet to try the newest mode that Naughty Dog released this past week, but I intend to do some interrogating of my own very soon.

Otherwise, I am currently downloading the Resident Evil games that entered the IGC today, while listening to the new Nine Inch Nails album and playing League. The album is fantastic, by the way. That’s about all I have for today.
